Autumn start to grant work

The Friends' bid to the BBC Breathing Spaces grant scheme has been successful and community activity is due to start in the autumn. The lottery has agreed to give £8,600 towards the work. This will include a woodland walk, through the bank of trees at the ende of the old putting green area, a strip of wildflowers and bulbs to the fringe of the mown area, money for bird boxes throughout the park and money for improving the appearance of the wildlife pond.

Canada Goose joins moat club
31st August 2007
A Canada Goose has become the latest bird to be seen in the Moat. It is likely to become a regular feature, having been placed there by an RSPCA rescue team. The goose had been recovering in the RSPCA's care and is now well enough to look after itself.

Moorhen madness
16th August 2007
The Pleasaunce's resident moorhens, frustrated in spring at their first attempt to breed are having a second go. There are four chicks now but attempts to nest on the new air bubbler in the Moat proved unrealistic and led to various spats with the local mallards, who feel ownership rights to the gizmo, which helps to oxygenate the water for the fish.
