Although the heron which grace the Pleasaunce, mostly in the early morning and again in the evenings, are popular with visitors, they raise the hackles of the local crows, who seem determined to frighten them away In this picture, captured by Jason, the heron is standing his ground. The Council's Parks and Open Spaces Department have provided some new picnic benches in the woodland glen area after a suggestion from the Friends.

In mid to late summer bird life can go quiet. When they do appear they can look quite strange - yellowish blue tits, blackbirds with speckled heads, brown-headed starlings. All the mallards look like drakes, the duck losing its colours and ability to fly.
After breeding, birds take the opportunity to moult, replacing worn out feathers or juvelines acquiring adult plumage.
