Robin

<< Birds N - Z
The UK's favourite bird - with its bright red breast it is familar throughout the year and especially at Christmas! Males and females look identical, and young birds have no red breast and are spotted with golden brown.

SONG

Robins sing nearly all year round and despite their cute appearance, they are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders. They will sing at night next to street lights.

Robins like woodlands, parks and gardens with plenty of undergrowth and they eat worms, seeds, fruits and insects.

The song is a sweet, high warbling; alarm call is a loud repetitive 'tic tic tic',

Nesting begins early, often with three broods and the nests are well concaled in hedgerows or undergrowth.

Robins are very territorial and one male will fight with another to establish a breeding ground. This is a rare picture of a male and female together.
