October 2006
October
It is estimated that over 10,000 species of fungi grow in Britain. Wild mushrooms grow from September until the frosts of late October cease their activities.
The plants appear most frequently in early morning, nurtured by warm soil and refreshed with dew.
Magpies, anciently believed to be birds of ill omen, chatter across the autumn skies for a variety of carrion or scraps to eat.
This autumn, part of the warmest year the UK has ever recorded, produced an exceptional show from the Pleasaunce's trees.
