The Well Hall Pleasaunce's history dates back to the 13th century. It is a haven of formal gardens, ponds and woodland. It contained a manor house at the time of Henry V111 and more recently was the home of Railway Children author E Nesbit.

Renovated with a lottery grant in 2002, it holds the Green Flag as a park which is welcoming, safe and well-maintained. The Friends aim to develop and promote the Pleasaunce working with the council. *COMMUNITY ACTIVITY DAY* : SATURDAY JUNE 14

The Friends next garden work day in the Pleasaunce will be on Saturday June 14. On the day, volunteers will be helping to clear the wildlife pond and planting up to 50 water lilies. The aim of the lilies will be to enhance this section of the Pleasaunce and provide extra foliage to help keep algae and duckweed under control.

Volunteers will also take off the flowering heads of cow parsley in the woodland area. Cow parsley is dominating the flora in the woodland area and needs to be reduced if other species are to flourish.

People are invited to join in the activities anytime between 10am and 1pm, meet at the bowls pavilion.
BARN OPEN AS A CAFE

The Tudor Barn is now as a cafe from 9am - 3pm pm on weekdays.

It is a temporary measure while the Barn's long-term future is considered.

The Barn will be open for functions and will accept bookings for weddings and events.

The cafe will be open from Mondays to Fridays and will be run by the team who are in charge of the very successful operation at Charlton House.

The Friends warmly welcome the commitment the council is showing to plan a better future for the Barn. The discussion of replacing the licence under new management as part of a mixed usage of the building is welcomed by the Friends who are seeking a wide debate among all members of the community about the future.

Woodland Walk Open

A 60m trail has been cut through woodland in the Pleasaunce. The Enviroworks team from Lewisham has made the trail by scything through branches in the bank of trees and laying mounds of bark chippings.

The new walk enables a view of the inside of a woodland just yards from a busy main road and the ornamental flower beds.
